Leslie French was a British theatre and film actor.

He was born on April 23, 1904, and passed away on January 21, 1999. French was most known for his work in the theater, where he performed as an actor, but he was also a director, singer, and dancer.

French career encompassed a wide range of genres, including ballet, pantomime, and musical revue. He is most known for his performance as Ariel in William Shakespeare’s The Tempest; but, during the course of his career, he has also portrayed a number of Shakespeare’s other characters, including the spirits and clowns Puck, Feste, and Touchstone.

After making his debut as a young actor in a Christmas production at the Little Theatre in 1914, he dropped out of school the following year to become a stagehand and prompter for the Ben Greet Company, which was then touring the country. French was the first cast as Bobby Howes’ understudy in the West End production of the musical Mr. Cinders; however, when the production went on tour, French assumed the part of the lead character.
